We are all creatures of comfort and have those go-to items that pacify us and take us to our happy place when we are low or feeling sad, anxious, or depressed. These trustable familiars have the emotional and physical ability to transition us from a negative space to a place of tranquility. They evoke a strong sense of warmth, comfort, peace, wellbeing, and safety. They also make us feel at ease and help fall into a deep sleep faster. These tried and true buddies are different for each of us. Kids love stuffed animals, some prefer prayer shawls or snuggly sweaters, while others have a favorite blanket.
Whatever these steadfasts may be, they are critical to our peace of mind and emotional welfare. When we reach for them, we know it’s going to be okay. For the vast majority of us though, a cozy, plush blanket is all we need. For many, it’s the Magic Weighted Blanket.
Magic Weighted Blankets
The Magic Weighted Blanket was the first weighted blanket to hit the market in 1998 and their popularity is still evident. If you are like most, you may wonder how they’re made and what gives the blanket its weight. Each blanket is sewn with impeccable precision and filled with 100% new, BPA-free, non-toxic, hypo-allergenic polypropylene pellets. As a mom and health-conscious person, these attributes means a lot.
A weighted blanket creates a calming effect and helps us reduce stress, feel secure, and get to sleep faster and deeper through its deep touch pressure. Weighted blankets have also been a comfort to people with OCD, ASD, restless leg syndrome, severe anxiety, fibromyalgia, and more. For those who have older pets, they too may seek solace in the blankets warm and opulent fibers.
As its name implies, it’s a heavy blanket. To give you an idea, these blankets are about 3 – 5 times heavier than your standard duvet. The Weighted Blankets weigh anywhere from 6 – 20 lbs and which one you choose is reflective of your size, not the size of your bed. So children could use the lighter weights and adults the heavier options, but it’s a matter of personal choice.
Textures & Features
The Magic Weighted Blankets are available in four soothing textures, Chenille, Fleece, Cotton, and Minky. And each of these textures offers a variety of colors and prints to choose from. I’ve had the luxury of receiving a Chenille blanket and the texture is super-soft, plush, and irresistibly cozy. The blanket has a lovely, what I call, rosebud swirl design that gives it a unique appearance. It does weigh a hefty 16 lbs, but the pressure feels quite comfortable. It really does feel like a big warm welcoming hug. I wish I knew about the Magic Weighted Blanket years ago.
Even though it’s immensely hot weather outside currently, I found this blanket refreshingly pleasant. But, all four textures will be a huge hit during the cooler autumn and winter months. For those who need a cooler fabric, the Cotton texture is designed to keep users cool while still feeling the needed pressure.
What I like is that there are no separate cover, inner lining, or zipper to fuss with. The blankets are all sewn as one piece so no assembling is required. These attributes make the blanket a breeze to wash, dry, and care for. The first I did when I go the Weighted Blanket, is wash it in cold water and put it in the dryer for about 45 minutes. It came out lush, lavish, and luxurious. My family loves the blanket and it will be well used. With the unsettling events we are currently experiencing, we need all the comfort we can get. This blanket may be just what we need.
